In 2010, my midlife dating journey began. Ten years later, I authored a book aimed at healing and helping women who are reentering the dating world for the first time in a long time. Through my self-discovery journey, I now have the passion to guide women who want a deeper awareness of their midlife relationship self.
In 2010--at age forty--I reentered the dating world for the first time in fifteen years; only this time, I was the mother of two young boys (ages eight and four), the media spokesperson for a Fortune 500 company, and now sole owner of a 3,000-square-foot home on 1.2 acres.
On the outside, I was the shell of a hard-working, single mom with barely enough time for a thirty-minute coffee date; But on the inside, I was a lost, lonely soul searching in the dark for the love of my life. Although, I wanted my divorce; I never imagined the pain and hurt that would follow.
And not because of a lost love--but a lost dream! Trust me, it's the lost dream that can cause lingering pain--that is, if you let it.
I grieved the lost dream just as I would have grieved the passing of a loved one. But the grieving period came to a close, and I began to envision the next dream--the one in which I'm laughing until I die with the man I was meant to grow old with.
Then I thought ... Seriously it's not time for you to find him—it’s time for you to find you.
And so it began--my self-awareness journey.
I realized the only way out of my pain and into a sustainable, lasting love was through holding the mirror up and digging deep into my childhood roots and upbringing to better understand the adult relationship self within me.
It’s been several years since my personal transformation, which resulted in publishing a self-help book for midlife women reentering the dating world for the first time in a long time.
The Brands of a Man is an enlightening relationship-advice book with an anthropologist's eye for defining eight types (or brands) of midlife men. Grounded in extensive research and in-depth interviews with single, midlife women, The Brands of a Man is insightful, entertaining and empowering for midlife women--in both the dating and mating game.
